The Willoughby family - owned, over six generations, Baldon House and its estate, covering most of the land and many of the buildings in Marsh Baldon from about 1771 to 1921. Sir Christopher Willoughby was an agricultural reformer, and was rewarded for his efforts in 1794 by a baronetcy which passed down the line of his descendants.
The Fruin family – the first Fruins arrived in Toot Baldon in the 1760s. By the 1870s they had become the most populous family yet by the mid 1900s there were no Fruins living there.
The Spriggs family - an agricultural labouring family living in the later 1800s. The elderly grandmother died in the workhouse and following the death of the mother, the father avoided eviction with the help of the village community.
