From the mid 1950s until the 1980s, the Marsh Baldon Post Office was based at what is now Porter’s House on Pebble Hill. In October 1962 there was an audacious raid, but the culprits were later apprehended and sentenced at the Old Bailey. The story was covered in the national press as well as locally.

In July 1963, Postmistress Mrs Florence Mawer and her son Geoffrey were rewarded with 5 guineas each for their part in helping to catch the criminals.
